Note that BBT has to resort to this kind of absurd thinking to defend Eget, and that he never once says that Eget isn't a douchebag (also, in the midst of all this horseshit, Eget says something like "that's great advice" even though the advice part ("be the best douchebag you can be" or something like that) was much earlier).

That whole section where BBT goes on and on about how anyone who tries to do something should get a free pass because at least they tried to do something and aren't just sitting at a computer being mean about other people who have tried to do something is sort of amazing. I can't be bothered to re-watch it now, but I'm sure that he's at his worst in the Billy Bob Thornton episode. It's the complete and utter lack of experience that does him in. You can see what he's doing, or trying to do, and you can't so much with people who have trained for such a role (and thus respect such a role). I'd be amazed if him spilling water and laughing his head off at the mention of Tourette's (prompting Billy Bob Thornton to kind of laugh out of politeness if memory serves even though I'm pretty sure that he wasn't intending it to be funny (because only dickheads and children find Tourette's funny)) and more besides is all part of some sort of character thing that he's doing. So far, all Eget really seems to do that is in anyway useful is tell everyone that they have to pause for a commercial break (and it does amuse me that Norm acts surprised seemingly every single time this happens). If he was helping with the flow and sort of structuring it more and keeping things on track or something, then fair enough, but Norm seems to be doing fine without this kind of assistance. Just objectively he's out of his depth in this sense (obviously Norm's a chat show regular, Tom Green and Russell Brand have their own chat shows, etc.). Eget has minimal interview experience (either as interviewer or interviewee) and it shows. Right - just to be clear - i don't consider him shit because I'm jealous or because of this joke that you're referring to. This Eget-dislike thing has only been overblown because they made a joke out of it at the beginning of the second episode. Eget is the very obvious weak link, and the only people who think otherwise are likely self-hating types with low expectations and daddy issues. Norm in conversation with another great comic mind is often brilliant, so why is everyone apparently willing to settle for Norm in conversation with someone who barely has a sense of humour? Eget comes across at best like a contest winner and at worst like Jonah Hill in that one episode of Tim and Eric Nite Live. Someone funnier than him in the role - or just someone with a quicker mind really - would improve the show a great deal. He doesn't need to be a really funny guy but a lot of people don't seem to get that.
